Welcome to the Prompty Awards. Welcome to the future of fiction. Does that sound bold and presumptuous? I certainly hope so.
If you’re here, I suspect that you are a person whose creative drives carry you into new experiences and encourage you to try new things. Perhaps you’ve started tapping into the power of AI to produce great stories. I applaud your sense of adventure and creativity.
Let me tell you what we’re trying to do here with the Prompty Awards. We are at a moment of transition in the world of writing and publishing. Many people are against the use of AI to write books. However, while I, and I suspect many reasonable people, are opposed to the misuse of AI to create junk and engage in willful plagiarism, I think most of the opponents of AI fiction are missing the point.
AI fiction is simply happening. Feel free to call me out on this in five years, but I suspect that by the early 2030s, the majority of readers will neither notice that a book is AI fiction nor care. A good story is a good story.
But, copyright? Yes, it’s an issue, but it’s overblown. The AI copyright problem is like a life preserver that traditionalists are grasping onto as the AI publishing revolution sweeps across the industry. Again, I could be wrong, but I think within five years, the issue will be resolved and new precedents set through cases involving the major publishing houses.
In the meantime, if you’ve used AI to create a compelling work of fiction, I encourage you to enter it into the Prompty Awards.
If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to us through email or the contact form.
