The Prompty Awards are open to outstanding works of AI-generated or AI-assisted fiction in six categories:
LITERARY FICTION
Stories driven by character, voice, ideas, and the complexity of the human experience.
SCIENCE FICTION
Stories that explore technology, science, the future, space, and the possibilities of worlds yet to come.
MYSTERIES & THRILLERS
Compelling stories of suspense, investigation, danger, crime, and the unexpected.
SPECULATIVE FICTION
Stories that ask What if? and imagine realities beyond the boundaries of the world we know.
ROMANCE
Stories of love, relationships, desire, connection, and the emotional journeys that bring people together.
HISTORICAL FICTION
Stories that bring another time and place to life while illuminating the people, conflicts, and experiences of the past.

What Makes a Prompty Award Winner?
We’re looking for more than technically impressive AI output.
We’re looking for great stories.
Judges will consider qualities such as:
ORIGINALITY
Does the work offer a fresh perspective, concept, voice, or approach?
STORYTELLING
Does the story engage, surprise, move, or captivate the reader?
CHARACTERS
Are the characters compelling, believable, memorable, and emotionally resonant?
CRAFT
Does the writing demonstrate control of language, structure, pacing, dialogue, and narrative?
IMAGINATION
Does the work push beyond the expected and demonstrate creative ambition?
USE OF AI
Does the work demonstrate an effective and meaningful use of artificial intelligence as part of the creative process?
Ultimately, we’re looking for one thing:
A STORY WE CAN’T STOP READING.
AI Is the Medium. Story is the Goal.
The Prompty Awards are not about proving that AI can generate words.
We already know it can.
The interesting question is:
What can writers create with it?
AI can generate possibilities. It can explore voices, develop ideas, transform scenes, challenge assumptions, and open doors to creative directions that might never have been considered.
But technology alone doesn’t make a great story.
Great storytelling still requires imagination.
That’s what we’re celebrating.
Who Should Enter?
The Prompty Awards are for anyone creating compelling fiction with the help of artificial intelligence.
You might be:
- An established novelist experimenting with AI
- A first-time author
- An independent writer
- A traditionally published author exploring new creative tools
- A filmmaker or screenwriter working in prose (or novelizing an existing screenplay)
- A storyteller who has discovered a completely new way to create
- Someone who simply had a story to tell—and found AI helped bring it to life
You don’t need to fit the traditional definition of an author.
You just need a story worth telling.
